A year-round tourism destination, Manuel Antonio abounds in beautiful beaches, tropical rainforests and an incredible variety of wildlife that attract sun-lovers, nature enthusiasts, as well as deep-sea fisherman and those with an affinity for extreme sports. Internationally respected National Geographic magazine recognized this area of Costa Rica as one of the most biologically diverse in the world. In fact, bio- corridors known locally as “monkey highways" run throughout this area. The corridors help the monkeys travel up and down the coast by providing a linked rope-like system for them to utilize. In addition to many community-based efforts and nature preservation, the area offers a broad spectrum of activities, tours, fine restaurants, charming local cafes, bars and, of course, the natural beauty of the Manuel Antonio National Park.
The area still reveres the importance of the local values and customs. The locals are tremendous hosts of the culture and you are invited by them to become a part of it and to feel welcome within it.
Local ice cream parlors, soccer fields and a weekly farmer’s market, assist in adding a truly authentic feel to this area. In general, Costa Rican’s take tremendous pride in their culture; Quepos is no objection to this rule and therefore emphasis is placed on preserving the local feel of the area. Quepos is unique in this way as many other areas of Costa Rica have given way to the infiltration of tourism. Come and see for yourself why this area on the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica is so special…
Paved roads and breathtaking scenery make the drive from San Jose, the capital city, a pleasant one. For those a bit more anxious to get here, domestic flights make the 3.5 hour drive a 25 minute trip into the Quepos airport.
